Install CyanogenMod 12 ROM [Android 5.0.2] on Samsung Galaxy S5

/ by
Samsung Galaxy S5 is the most powerful phone in the S series till now and is popular in the market because of it’s mindblowing features which still many phones ain’t having. The phone released in 2014 was released with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and with a new TouchWiz OS. Well, I usually don’t write about Samsung because I have never experienced any Samsung phone. By experience, I mean I haven’t done anything much, but just played with Odin to root the phone, installed ROMs and recoveries only. When I heard about Samsung Galaxy S5, I was happy because I knew that one my friend will be buying it obviously and I will get my hands on it. When I used the phone, it was impressive because the earlier versions of TouchWiz OS were too slow and unresponsive. Tap on the screen and wait for a few seconds to get the result, but the S5 appealed to me a lot. Anyway, some days ago, he pinged me when he saw me and mine friends running on the latest Android 5.0 OS because he was waiting for an official update. The wish will be taking many months to complete, and till the time, Android 6.0 will be launched! After feeling sad for him, I took his phone and rooted off and installed CyanogenMod 12 ROM onto the phone and now he’s happy with that ROM only. Okay, so let’s see what are the features that you’ll be getting after install CM 12 ROM on the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Remove TouchWiz OSThough the new TouchWiz OS is smooth, but don’t you want to try new themes daily and change between them in just some seconds? With CyanogenMod ROMs, you cannot only download themes from Google Play Store (or from 3rd party apps), but also can apply them without a single reboot! Not only thing, AOSP or the pure Android OS is much faster than TouchWiz.

Material UI- So you think the UI of TouchWiz is better than Android? You are absolutely wrong. If you think so, then it looks like you have only used KitKat OS by Google. The new OS i.e., Lollipop is totally changed! All from notification bar to the key navigations buttons have been changed.

ART- If your phone lags on the TouchWiz UI and you are updating to CM 12 ROM just because of this, then you are doing it right. ART which was introduced in KitKat is now fully stable and it much powerful than the Dalvik RunTime. It not only saves your battery, but increases your device’s speed too.

There are many features which you’ll be getting with CM 12 ROM and let’s no more waste our time in reading them. Let’s move to the main tutorial quickly.

  • Follow this tutorial to make a backup of your current ROM.

  • After you have wiped the data, select Choose the zip from sdcard option from CWM recovery and now hunt and choose your ROM (in .ZIP format). Confirm the flash!
  • After the ROM has been flashed, select the first option i.e., Reboot system now to reboot your device to the ROM.
Now it will take some minutes or so for your device to be in the main Android UI after which you can install your favorite applications and do everything you did on TouchWiz OS.
